Teaching Programme
The National Board of Examinations, New Delhi, an autonomous body directly under the control of the Government of India, awards degrees called “Diplomate of the National Board (DNB)”, which are equivalent to post-graduate degrees M.D. or M.S. and post-doctoral qualifications of Universities - D.M., M.C.H.
Doctors, who wish to appear for the examinations conducted by the National Board of Examinations, should undergo training for the prescribed period in hospitals or Institutes accredited by the National Board of Examinations.
Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Prashanthigram, has been accredited by the National Board of Examinations for giving training to doctors in the Departments of Cardiology, Cardio-Thoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS), Urology, Ophthalmology and Anaesthesiology.
The number of candidates admitted for training in this Institute every year is two each for Anaesthesiology and Urology and one each for Cardiology, CTVS and Ophthalmology. The period of training is 3 years.
Eligibility Criteria
Super Specialties: Cardiology, CTVS, Urology
Candidates should be in possession of a recognised Post Graduate degree qualification as M.D General Medicine or Paediatrics for Cardiology and M.S.General Surgery) for CTVS.
Broad Specialties: Ophthalmology, Anaesthesiology
For Broad Specialities, the applicant should
Be holding medical qualification registerable under the Medical Council of India Act, 1956 and such other qualification as may be recognised by the Medical Council of India from time to time.
Should have passed the Centralised Entrance Test (CET-NBE) which will be held twice a year by the National Board of Examinations.
Applying for the course
The application should be addressed to the Chairman, Academics and Research Committee, SSSIHMS duly filled in, enclosing Xerox copies of matriculation, Medical and Post graduate degree certificates and also a copy of the certificate issued by the National Board of Examination for having passed the CET-NBE in case of application for Broad Specialities. The trainees should produce original certificates at the time of the examination.
Academic Activities
There is an active Academic Council that organises periodic meetings and lectures on subjects of interest to doctors and medical staff. Frequent Departmental meetings are also arranged for teaching of DNB trainees and discussion of interesting cases. Specialist doctors visiting the hospital also share their knowledge and experience with doctors in the Hospital. The doctors of both our hospitls conduct weekly video conferencing with each other to show cases which presented peculier and rare features.
Doctors of the hospital also contribute several technical papers and participate in technical conferences. |
